Beaches

We are very lucky to have some beautiful beaches on our doorstep here at Ty Nant. The closest, Tresaith Beach, is an 8 to 10 minute walk from Ty Nant, but there are plenty of other lovely beaches that are easily reachable for a day out.

Tresaith Beach

Lovely sandy beach (some stones after stormy weather), with waterfall. Additional beach and rock pools accessible at low tide. Never gets too busy, even in the summer holidays. Keep an eye out for passing dolphins.

Distance - 8 to 10 minutes’ walk. (Add on an extra 5 for a leisurely stroll back up).

Parking - Parking down at the beach is limited to a couple of cars plus 3-4 disabled spaces. However, you can park all day in the car park at the top of the hill. (Turn left at the bus stop just by the steps down to the beach, then look for the car park sign just a few yards up the hill on your left. There is a small charge for the day.)

Dogs - Fully dog friendly from 1st October to 30th April. From 1st May to 30th September, dogs are allowed on the right hand side of the beach only (as you look out to sea).

Facilities - Public Toilets | Kayak hire | Gift Shop and Café | Ship Inn pub and restaurant overlooking the beach | Life Guard on duty in the summer.

Aberporth

Two idyllic sandy beaches (Dyffryn and Dolwen), popular with families in the summer months. Sheltered bay that is lovely and safe for swimming. Dyffryn Beach has a stream running down the side of it which is lovely for paddling.

Distance – 5 minutes’ drive. A stunning 30 to 45 minute walk from the house via the cliff-top Coastal Path.

Parking – Both beaches have a small car park but there is also parking in Heol Y Graig (go straight on at the mini roundabout just after the Morlan pub and restaurant, then take the 1st right).

Dogs – Dyfrryn Beach is dog friendly all year round. Dolwen Beach is dog friendly in the winter only (not from 1st May to 30th September).

Facilities - Public Toilets | 3 Cafés | Fish and Chip Shop | Ship Inn pub and restaurant overlooking Dyffryn beach | The Boy Ashore Beach Bar (back of Dyffryn Beach) | Life Guard on duty in the summer | Access to other shops in village, including pharmacy, general stores, art gallery and post office.

Penbryn

Long, unspoiled sandy beach (National Trust) which was featured in the James Bond movie, Die Another Day

Distance – 5 to 10 minutes’ drive.

Parking – Drop off and disabled parking only down at beach. National Trust Car Park at top of lane (fee payable, free to members). If you are feeling more energetic, instead of walking to and from the beach along the lane from the car park, try the gorgeous woodland route that is signposted from the rear corner of the car park, behind the Plwmp Tart cafe. It drops down to a stream and waterfall before climbing up some steep steps to join the coastal path down to the beach. Beautiful!

Dogs – Fully dog friendly in the winter. No dogs on the National Trust owned part of the beach from 1st May to 30th September (see map in car park).

Facilities - Toilets | Plump Tart Café by car park | EV charging point

Further afield

If you don't mind spending a little longer in the car, take a trip across the River Teifi into Pembrokeshire where you will find many more stunning resorts and beaches. Our personal favourites are:

Barafundle Bay and Broad Haven South Beach

If you like walking, there is an amazing circular walk you can do which starts/finishes at Stackpole Quay (National Trust). A breathtaking cliff top path takes you to Barafundle Bay then around Stackpole Head before dropping down to Broad Haven South Beach. The route back takes in some of the beautiful Bosherston Lily Ponds before leading you across open farmland back to Stackpole Quay.

Freshwater West

If you are a Harry Potter fan, this vast, West-facing beach which offers some amazing sunsets, is the home of Dobby's grave. Dobby's final moments were filmed here and ever since, pilgrims have flocked to the dunes behind the beach here to leave a token of remembrance to their favourite house elf.

Solva

A small beach accessible at low tide along a narrow but picturesque estuary. The sweet little village here has some lovely cafes and pubs as well as some nice gift shops. Visit the Cafe on the Quay for a drink and snack overlooking the estuary.
