Ceredigion

Ty Nant is located in the Welsh county of Ceredigion. Known historically as Cardiganshire, the county makes for a superb get-away, being the second most sparsely populated county in Wales and having a 50 mile long coastline on the beautiful Cardigan Bay. Inland from the coast, Ceredigion offers a landscape of green hills and mountains, rising to the Cambrian Mountains in the east, which are the source of the county's four main rivers: the Ystwyth, the Rheidol, the Aeron and the Teifi, which forms the border between Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire to the south.

The largest town in Ceredigion is Aberystwyth, which makes for a lovely day trip from Ty Nant and is the home of the National Library of Wales and Aberystwyth University. Second to Aberystwyth is Cardigan or Aberteifi, which is the closest town to Ty Nant and has its own fascinating history. In fact, until the coming of the railways, Cardigan was South Wales' most important port, famous for the export of oats, barley, butter and slate, and with its castle overlooking the banks of the Teifi, which hosted the first ever National Eisteddford, Cardigan can also rightly claim to be a focal point for Welsh culture.

Other key towns within the county are Lampeter, which played a big part in Wales' woollen industry and is home to The University of Wales Trinity Saint David, and pretty, colourful coastal town of Aberaeron (pictured), which is now the location of one of the main Ceredigion County Council offices.

Ceredigion is blessed with some amazing wildlife, including a permanent population of Bottlenose Dolphins who can be seen in Cardigan Bay all year round. Coastal birds are in abundance, and inland the county is famous for its Red Kites, particularly at the Red Kite Feeding Centre near Tregaron.

Besides agriculture, tourism is one of Ceredigion's main industries, and no surprise, when the county boasts one of the most unspoiled coastlines in the UK and some of the most stunning inland countryside. For the visitor, the choices of things to do are endless - from wildlife watching and beach days to sporting activities like cycling, walking, golf, climbing, kayaking and paddleboarding, or days visiting one of the county's many placed of historical interest.

If you would like to explore the county yourself, Ty Nant is the perfect base, situated walking distance from one of Ceredigion's prettiest beaches and yet within an easy drive of places like Aberporth, Cardigan, New Quay, Aberaeron, Lampeter and Aberystwyth. Book your stay today. You won't be disappointed.
