Pubs and Restaurants
Some of our favourite places to eat and drink…
Tresaith
The Ship Inn
www.sabrainpubs.com/pubs-and-hotels/mid-west-wales/ceredigion/the-ship-inn
Our local and, even better, it is less than 10 minutes’ walk away! Pub and restaurant overlooking Tresaith Beach, with views to die for, both from the dining conservatory and the terrace. The perfect place for a sundowner. Dog friendly. Simple pub grub but tasty.
Aberporth
The Ship Inn (yes another one)
The bar is dog friendly, but if you are dog free then we would recommend eating in the upstairs dining room for a lovely beach view on a summer’s evening. Delicious, home-cooked food and friendly staff. Do try the Mariner’s Pie!
Llangrannog
Pentre Arms
Cosy, friendly inn (one of our real favourites) with a fantastic picture window seat overlooking the beach. Excellent pub food. You can eat in the bar area or reserve a table in the dining room. Dog friendly in the bar. Good venue for watching sport (especially rugby!). Pool and Darts room.
Tafell A Tân
Award-winning, wood-fired pizza café. Mostly good for take-away but has limited indoor seating. Order online in advance to avoid disappointment.
Who can beat pizza on the beach while dolphin spotting?
Penbryn
The Plump Tart
Tel 01239 758100
Adjacent to the National Trust car park for Penbryn Beach, this café serves light lunches and delicious, home-baked cakes. (The scones are as light as a feather.) A perfect spot for refreshments after walking up from the beach. Dog friendly.
St Dogmaels
The Ferry Inn
Another one of our favourites, this riverside pub and restaurant has a great menu with lots of fish dishes. Don’t be put off by the small exterior. The place is a tardis and is dog-friendly downstairs. There is also a spacious, heated outside seating area overlooking the estuary.
Teifi Waterside Hotel
Further along from The Ferry Inn towards Poppit Sands is this recently refurbished hotel and pub. Plentiful outdoor estuary-side seating.
New Quay
The Blue Bell
Deli downstairs and wonderful bistro upstairs, right on the harbour front. Great menu.
The Pepperpot Bar & Grill
Cosy seaside bar and restaurant with delicious food and a separate Vegan menu. Dogs welcome.
The Lime Crab
The best fish and chips on the coast! Served from a takeaway cabin at the top of the harbour wall. We can recommend the seafood platter, the mackerel goujons and the salt and pepper squid.
Aberaeron
Harbourmaster
Seafood restaurant overlooking the harbour, for the slightly more special evening. More casual lunch menu also available in the bistro. Large outdoor marquee currently available.
Angelato
www.facebook.com/angelatoaberaeron/
The best (Italian) ice-cream in Aberaeron. Plus milkshakes and waffles. On the main road through the town (at 4 Sgwar Alban, Aberaeron SA46 0AD).
Cardigan
Crwst
Priory St, Cardigan SA43 1BU. crwst.cymru/
The best breakfast in town! Also good for lunch. Set in a large, funky, contemporary style café.
NB: Crwst has also now opened a smaller coffee bar by the main beach car park at Poppit Sands.
Mannucci’s
1 High Street, Cardigan, SA43 1HJ
Italian restaurant with a warm welcome. We love sitting upstairs in the winter or in the conservatory in the summer. Not the cheapest Italian, but the food is good and it’s right on the High Street.
Pizzatipi
Stonebaked, handmade pizzas. Welsh craft beers & wine. All set in a riverside courtyard with – you’ve guessed it – its own tipi, a roaring fire pit and rustic booths with overhead heaters. Not always open every day so check the website and booking is definitely recommended.
Albion Aberteifi
Beautiful hotel bar which is lovely for coffee by day and for beer or cocktails in the evening. Right by the Teifi river and accessible by a footbridge opposite Cardigan Castle. Why not start here then cross over the road for a drink at …
The Castle Inn
www.instagram.com/bernardscastle
Recently renovated historical, riverside inn. In the winter, you can enjoy Pizzatipi pizzas cooked and served in the pub instead. Top banana!
Castle Café & Cellar Bar
www.facebook.com/thecastlecafecardigan/
Dog-friendly café opposite the castle, offering tasty breakfasts, homemade meals and delicious cakes with some great veggie/vegan options.
Yr Hen Printworks
https://www.yrhenprintworks.co.uk/
Michelin accredited, this stylish restaurant near the castle and the River Teifi is housed in a beautiful historic printworks. Serves top notch Welsh tapas made from the best quality local ingredients. Perfect for a special occasion or romantic dinner for two. Cocktails are good too!
Rhydgoch
La Calabria
Family-run Italian restaurant tucked away on a farm. A 15 to 20 minute scenic drive inland. Offers rustic Italian cuisine with delicious pasta and daily specials. Booking recommended. Not dog friendly.
Newport
Blas at Fronlas
A lovely place for lunch after a walk on Newport Sands. Creative menu using local ingredients. Good mix of healthy food and naughty but nice cakes!
Cat Rock Cafe
Independent café located within Newport Links Golf Club, 3 mins from the beach. Freshly cooked breakfasts and lunches as well as coffee and cake. The Dirty Fries are highly recommended. Families and dogs welcome. Fabulous views.
Further afield …
Porthgain, SA62 5BN
The Sloop Inn
Dating back to 1743m this is one of the most iconic harbourside pubs in Pembrokeshire. The interior is quaint and historic, while the outdoor seating area is a lovely place to soak up the sun and look down to the tiny harbour. The speciality is fresh crab, which is landed daily at the harbour.
Rosebush, SA66 7QU
Tafern Sinc
www.tafarnsinc.cymru/eng/index.php
Historic community pub set within the Preseli Hills, famous for its red tin roof and walls, sawdust on the floor, agricultural implements hanging from the ceiling and washing hanging above the stove. Food available. Dogs welcome in the front bar.
Solva, SA62 6UQ
